This picket is not global in nature. It is specifically about Jenkins' vote to surrender Detroiters' right to elect their own representatives. Her yes vote to the consent agreement voided the vote and voice of the people.

Saunteel, your campaign slogan was "New Leadership, New Results". These are not the results the people of Detroit wish to see. It is a failure in leadership.

We need your active support and bodies on the picket line. Please bring an umbrella as it is supposed to rain....there is plenty of sidewalk area and parking.

Please make signs, and bring bull horns if you have them.

Please send this message to everyone, and every activist organization you know.

Easter Letter to Rev Owens

From: Concerned Citizens for Democracy
To: Reverend Michael Owens

Sunday. April 8. 2012
Reverend Michael Owens, as you know in a contentious 5-4 vote, the City Council approved a consent agreement with the state. Because of this vote, the city of Detroit will never be the same. In Detroit, pastors are very influential. It is fair to say that your and the Detroit Council of Baptist Pastors endorsement of the Consent Agreement helped to affirm this decision. We believe that anyone against PA.4 should also be against the Consent Agreement.

It is bad public policy with coercive elements that allows the State to have unprecedented and unconstitutional control of the City of Detroit. We are asking that you recant your statement as follows, “We believe that an agreement and action plan needs 10 be crafted and approved that restructures city government, establishes fiscal accountability and discipline, and creates a sustainable track record of recovery".

We are asking that you issue a statement rejecting the Consent Agreement. This consent agreement is nothing less than a hostile takeover — one aimed at stripping Detroiters of their voting power and the city of its remaining assets. We are asking you to issue a statement rejecting with the Consent Agreement. It is a deal that sets up a new and powerful nine-member financial advisory board, a chief financial officer, and a project manager with broad powers over the city's budget. This restructuring will be painful and sweeping. City departments will disappear, some services will be cut and others privatized and city workers will be fired.

We are asking that you stand with the people of the City of Detroit and the Citizens of the State of Michigan. We believe the referendum campaign allows for the people to speak on the future of PA.4 and public policy in Michigan. It is our hope that you would stand with those who believe in Democracy and remove moral support for the Consent Agreement.

Council Of Baptists Pastors Supports Consent Agreement

Rev. Dr. Michael Andrew Owens, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, East and President of Detroit's Council Of Baptists Pastors speaking at public comment indicated the group approves of the consent plan.
"We believe an agreement and action plan needs to be crafted and approved that restructures city government and establishes fiscal accountability," Owens said.
"Inasmuch as an agreement we have reviewed and its final analysis still allows elected officials to be involved in the process -- the citizens of Detroit already invest and trust in you -- would have ability to expect your participation and your monitoring and assessment of whats going on in the process would bring back to them a trustworthy opinion of what the real deal is."
Council Member JoAnn Watson interrupted his speech, saying "Shame, shame."
"I'm shocked and stunned," she said. "You marched with me in Lansing against Public Act 4. ... There is no bifurcation. You either support Public Act 4 and its unconstitutional, undemocratic status or you're against this consent agreement."
Owens backtracked and said given the possible imposition of emergency manager, the Baptist Pastors would support an agreement that would keep elected officials in some kind of power.
