Charter Requirements Not Met

Today we uncover a hidden gem on the internet -  www.DetCharter.com is dedicated to being a watchdog for the Detroit's City Charter. June 30 is implementation deadline for a number of items from the January 2012 revision to the charter. Perhaps the list of action items are part of Mayor Bing's plan to announce at the City-Wide Community Meeting tonight at 7pm.

Free Detroit No Consent is asking the public to rally in advance 5pm at the Labor Monument in Hart Plaza next to Jefferson. As a united public front we can prepare for the constraints of the meeting and ensure people have an opportunity for their issues to be heard.

City Charter Actions Overdue

City Charter Actions Coming Up

Impact to the City

The Inspector General (sec 7.5.1) and Corporation Counsel (sec 7.5.2) were removed from the Executive branch in the January 2012 revision. This will prove to be a thorn in Mayor Bing's side because both of these sections of government are given autonomy and oversight of the whole city government. We have already seen the Mayor's attorneys influencing State of Michigan Claims Court in the case brought June 13.

Corporation Counsel brought case in Claims Court to verify the course of law through section 2-113 indicating the State of Michigan with debts due the city would not be able to enter into the Financial Stability Agreement (Consent Agreement).

Jobs

Stalling on Green Initiatives and Sustainable Technologies (GIST) Plan is one way the current administration has denied jobs in addition to eliminating jobs. Changes to bus schedules in March wiped out off-shift work opportunities for Detroiters.

Lets talk about basics and how they haven't been a priority.
